Canal house study
Over the past 20 years I have spent a lot of time in Amsterdam. While I am a big fan of contemporary Dutch design, I have grown to love the architecture of the canal houses, particularly those built along the Grachtengordel. The Grachtengordel, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a ribbed band of canals laid out in the 17th century for the expansion of the old city. I've taken hundreds of photographs of canal houses, and made several separate studies; the work below comes from a study of houses on the Damrak.
